If you have a smart phone, MobileTalk might be an option worth checking out:

I use www.pennytalk.com to call Australia. You can purchase minutes/hours online with a credit card and simply add to it when you run low.

If your computer has  mic and speaker, you are able to call via skype and pay 2cents/minute to Malaysia and Singapore.  All my international calls even to canada are thru skype. If you have an iphone, and able to get wireless connection, the same skype account will work on your iphone too.

We are using Vonage, a VOIP service phone. If you call home often then it's all worth it. It's $15/month for the first 6months and will be $25+ after that. I also have a skype account which I use to call home using my cell phone if I'm travelling.

cook porridge?? you are funy, GG :D

I call my mom 2 days once and I have a sister staying in India; hubby's family is India. Calling cards gets expensive for us so vonage is the best option for us because it's the same charge whether you call LAN line of cellphone.

How does the Skype account work? Can you use a cell phone or do you have to use the computer?

How does the Skype account work? Can you use a cell phone or do you have to use the computer?

1) use on your computer via speaker and microphone,
2) add a webcam so you could do video phone call
3) hook up to a special adapter between your computer and normal cordless phone then you can walk around your house and talk via skype and not have to sit infront of your PC
4)  with iphone, there is an apps, so if you can hook up to a wireless network, you can call with skype apps to anywhere (cellphone, landline or skype user)

I have wecam on my laptop, so I've used video phone call and my cousins got to see a walking tour of my house and garden.  Grandma has seen the kids go on the school bus as well. All with skype.

My dad's last birthday, at my bro's house, they sang birthday song and he blew his cake ... and I got to join in via skype.. I even sang birthday song with them!!

Also, because the high speed in Malaysia can be somewhat unreliable as well, I still prefer to call them on the phone because I do not know what time they are online. You can choose one country calling only plan for $5.95 a month unlimited calls to Malaysia only or $12.95 a month unlimited to many countries. This is on Skype.
